WSX draws solid debut rating
I ended up watching the show after being annoyed with WWE jobbing out CM Punk to a total nothing and adding an RVD clean loss after that just out of spite. I wasn't overly impressed. The atmosphere I thought was good, and they have solid talent, but to become an alternative to WWE I think the best route is a more believable product and this is not it. But we'll see. Hopefully good ratings for this might open some doors for other people.

If this company, with head-to-head competition, very little promotion, a terrible lead-in, no talent with an established drawing record can draw a 1.0:
1) How pathetic is TNA? They have none of the disadvantages listed above, plus years to improve their product and find a niche. And they can't do any better than WSX on their first shot.
2) Ditto ECW.
3) There appears to be a base of about one million very loyal wrestling fans who can and will support multiple promotions. This is likely why even the worst WWE PPVs comfortably make a profit.
4) Should WSX continue to attain this degree of success, will they get a better tiemslot, promotion, and/or more money to invest in the product?
Excellent points. Reading what you said also suggests to me that the Russo effort to hotshot to draw increased ratings instead of focusing on building PPV buy rates is idiotic.
WSX is bad. It's bad for wrestling. There's nothing about it that intrigues me about it. Including shaking the camera when 'electricuting' wrestlers.
But it's wrestling so I'll watch it.
Finally got to see who Teddy Hart is and what all the message board talk was about.
Looks like he should be in WWE. I guess this will help his fan/hate base. Good move.
Consider me part of the 1.o
Hey man ... just wanted to stop in and say wassup! I hope life is treating you well. Headed to Vegas on Saturday to see Cro Cop and Rampage. Should be fun. Not that great a show, but we figured we better go now since UFC is gonna be in Ohio, Texas and Europe coming up. So, it'll likely be a while before we get to see them live again.
Anyway, I hope this finds you well. Take care.
There was too much yelling.
Can anybody here tell me how Hardys vs. MNM was on December to Dismember and Royal Rumble???
Better yet, how was that match on an ECW PPV, when none of those wrestlers have ever been apart of the old, or new ECW? (aside from Joey Matthews, who didnt even go by that name)
I think the 1.0 was due in pretty good part to the fact that the show is on MTV, whose core demo is sheep. They advertise something and a portion of their audience will watch it solely on the fact that MTV told them to.
I agree with dean. Don't get caught up in the ratings of a wrestling show on MTV. If I remember tough enough did alright on MTV, but that was a reality show. This product is doomed. MTV is the definition of pop culture production. And while wrestling is alot more popular than people truly realize or are willing to admit, a product like this does nothing for it. I see this product as a giant step backwards.
Rage, if you watch the match from Dismember it actually has alot of the same moves and transitions as the Rumble Hardyz/MNM match. I checked it out on my dvr when I saw your note and listening to Styles plug the match as possibly the last time these teams tag together seem completely irrelevant. The worst thing is the false advertising WWE did with the packaging of the DVD. They feature Sabu on the cover and the guy DID NOT EVEN WRESTLE ON THE SHOW. The only time he appeared was a brief segment where he was shown laid out in the back. WWE is forced to use Sabu now that they've seen how over he actually is (Rumble) but the fact they used him on the cover to sell the dvd is lame. And by lame I mean brilliant marketing.
Does anyone know what the match listing looks like on the back? Does it list Sabu or Hardcore Holly for the Chamber match?
