All is Right with the World

Giants 17 Patriots 14.

What a glorious result. I thought for sure the villains would triumph. But they didn't. Hooray.

What a GREAT game! I can't believe I was rooting for the Giants (being a Niners fan) but I was hoping the Patriots would lose. It wasn't pretty but the '72 Dolphins can open up those champagne bottles finally.

This could be the end of the Patriots dynasty as we know it. They are an aging team and bad things happen to Superbowl losers.

Hideous result. The best team should always win. And there's no way anyone could argue that the Giants were one of the best five teams in the league this year. This is as sickening as when the Cardinals won the World Series in 2006. Actually, worse because the Patriots were arguably the best team in history and had everything right for so long and definitely deserved this coronation.

"Villians?" I dearly hope you're being comical. I don't have any preference either way, but looking at the Patriots as villians? No wonder the views on pro wrestling are so messed up.

Yeah, I don't get it either. I thought the Patriots were the feel-good story of the sports year? Why are they all of a sudden the villians? This is unfortunate what happened.

18-1 BABY! I love it!! That made my whole night! Just the look on Bill Belicheats face was the greatest at the end! Did any of you see the last minutes of the game when Belicheat just walked inside the tunnel when there was still one second in the game and basically did the "Randy Moss when they lost the skins" even though there was only one second in the game you are still suppose to stay in the game. This shows how villianous they are in my opinion I agree with Todd! What a sore loser!

So what Belicheck does is representative of the whole team? Makes them all "villians?" Nonsense. I'm not a Patriot's fan myself, but I don't understand this personally intense attitude in professional sports. It's anti-competitive, if you ask me. Wrestling included. Fans need to be more sportsmanlike (and that goes for Belicheck, too.).

No way was this worse than the Cards winning the World Series in '06. 12 teams were better than St. Louis during the regular season, and 5 of them didn't even make the playoffs.

I am not understanding the belittling of the NY Giants. They have won 11 straight road games. They lost to the Patriots in the last game of the season 38-35. They defeated the Cowboys and the Packers in their run to the Superbowl. They were the better team yesterday and rightfully won the game although Brady almost pulled another one out of the fire.

I would more compare the Miami Heat of 2 years ago to the '06 Cardinals before I would add this year's Giants.

As a long, long, long-suffering fan of both the Detroit Lions and Chicago Cubs, the best part of all this is the NFC, yes, the NFC winning the championship. I don't care which team it was.

If you listen to the punditry, aka Sports talk radio, the blogosphere, etc., the NFC, MLB's National League and even the NBA's Eastern Conference should all have been dissolved over the course of the last 5-10 years because of their "junior varsity" status. Forget that.

The NFL Giants', MLB Cards' (thought I personally can't stand them) and NBA Heat's titles showcase the best of the best in sports - ANYTHING can happen.

Good times.

If you look at Football Outsiders' DVOA ratings, the single best and most predictive statistic out there, the Giants were the 16th best team in football this year. Click my name for the full list. They had a terrible TO differential, a barely positive point differential and beat only one winning team all year (Redskins) until the playoffs. They may not be as bad as the '06 Cards (who had a negative run differential in the worst division), but they certainly are in the ballpark.

You know your a bad Redskin fan when...you cheer for your hated divisional rivals because the other team ran up the score on you once in a random regular season game.

I'd be embarresed.

Argue all you want about whether a team is good or awful when they win it all. But you know what? They won it all.

I hate when people lean on stats too strongly instead of looking at what actually happened (Pythagorean w/l in baseball really chaps my ass). There were 15 better teams than the Giants in the NFL this year, huh? Shame none of them won the Super Bowl.
